How many words do you need?
KeyMint draws from the Electronic Frontier Foundation's long word list, which gives roughly 12.9 bits per word. Four words is about 52 bits, five words about 65, six words about 78. Each extra word multiplies the work an attacker has to do by nearly eight thousand.
The words must be chosen randomly for that maths to hold. A phrase you invented yourself is not a passphrase in this sense — it is a sentence, and sentences are predictable.
Filtering words
You can restrict the list to short words, long words, easy-to-type words or drop homophones. Every filter shrinks the pool, so KeyMint recalculates the entropy from the words that actually remain rather than quoting the full-list figure.
Generated entirely in your browser
KeyMint never receives your passwords. There is no account, no database, no server-side generation and no password history. Close the tab and everything you generated is gone.
Nothing is transmitted
Passwords are never sent anywhere — not to KeyMint, not to an analytics service, not to a breach-checking API, and never placed in a URL.
Nothing is stored
No local storage, no cookies, no IndexedDB. Pinned passwords live in the page's memory and vanish when you close it.
Real randomness
Every choice comes from crypto.getRandomValues() with rejection sampling, so no character or word is more likely than another.
Other ways to make a password
Each mode is the same generator with a different shape. Nothing you make in one is carried into another.
Strong Random
The strongest general-purpose choice. Best when a password manager stores it for you.
Readable
Real words with controlled substitutions. Trades some randomness for memorability.
Pronounceable
Invented but sayable syllables. Useful when you must type it by hand on another device.
PIN
For locks, cards and devices that only accept digits.
Custom
Exact character rules, or a pattern such as W-W-NN-S.
